Hold the Fort
What it means
Keep things running in someone's absence, without attempting anything new while they are gone.
Where it comes from
It is usually traced to a Union signal at Allatoona in 1864, telling a garrison to hold out until help arrived. The exact wording we use came from a hymn written about the incident afterwards.
The puzzle it came from
Hold the Fort was the answer to the Phrasicle of September 25, 2025. The clue read ____ the ____, and the words came out of a grid where every neighbouring pair makes a two-word phrase.
